GI-MAP Testing for Gut Health & Longevity

Advanced microbiome evaluation through GI-MAP® stool testing helps Unscripted Medicine uncover root contributors to digestive concerns, inflammation, and overall vitality— supporting personalized functional medicine care across North Dallas, Frisco, Plano, Addison, Richardson, and Carrollton.

    What Is GI-MAP Testing?

GI-MAP® (Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus) is a comprehensive stool analysis that uses quantitative PCR (qPCR) technology to detect microbial DNA with precision. Unlike traditional culture-based tests, GI-MAP provides a detailed snapshot of the bacteria, parasites, viruses, fungi, opportunistic organisms, digestive function markers, inflammation indicators, and gut barrier health—all from a single sample. It is one of the most widely used functional medicine tools for evaluating the gut microbiome.

    Why the Gut Microbiome Matters

The gut microbiome influences far more than digestion. It plays a role in immune regulation, nutrient absorption, hormone metabolism, mood, energy, skin clarity, and inflammation balance. When the microbial community is out of balance, patients may experience symptoms that touch nearly every system of the body. A clearer picture of what is happening in the gut often informs more effective, longevity-focused care.

    H. pylori Detection

GI-MAP includes markers for H. pylori and several associated virulence factor genes, which can be helpful when investigating reflux, indigestion, nausea, or unexplained abdominal discomfort.

    Dysbiosis & Microbial Imbalance

Detects shifts in commensal bacteria that may contribute to bloating, irregular bowel habits, food reactions, and chronic inflammation.

    Opportunistic Bacteria

Identifies opportunistic organisms that can overgrow when the microbial environment is disrupted and contribute to ongoing symptoms.

    Digestive Function Markers

Pancreatic elastase, steatocrit, and other markers offer insight into how well your body is breaking down and absorbing food.

Inflammation, Gut Barrier & Immune Function

GI-MAP includes inflammation markers such as calprotectin and secretory IgA, as well as zonulin—a key indicator of intestinal barrier integrity. Together, these markers give your provider a clearer picture of how the gut is interacting with the immune system and how well the intestinal lining is functioning.

Because roughly 70% of the immune system resides in and around the gut, supporting microbiome balance and barrier health can have far-reaching effects on long-term wellness and healthy aging.

    Concerns GI-MAP May Help Investigate

    • Bloating and gas
    • Food reactions and sensitivities
    • Digestive discomfort
    • Irregular bowel habits
    • Fatigue and low energy
    • Skin concerns such as acne, rosacea, and eczema
    • Inflammation and joint discomfort
    • Weight-loss resistance despite consistent effort

Testing recommendations are individualized. Not every patient needs advanced gut testing, and clinical context always guides the decision.
